Hey guys. Has anyone taken their Bayliner Element 160 out to Ship Island in Biloxi, Mississippi? I know I went out there (12 - 13 miles from the coastline) when I was a kid in my dad's 16 foot Galaxy bow rider, but I was little so I don't recall if it was a hairy trip or not.

Honestly, I'd like to take my Element 160 out there, but I'm not sure if it can handle that sort of thing safely. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter (good or bad).

I'm envisioning a beach trip during pleasant / mild weather conditions with my wife 2 kiddos and myself. B)

13 miles would be a long way if it turned rough...on the other hand maybe a half hour at an easy cruise? Surely there's some weather and sea conditions forecasts available?

Ship has a dock and snack bar but the federal bureaucrats don't allow overnights there. The effin' birds are more important to them. If you have any boating skills and know how the currents and wind works in the area, it shoudn't be to wet blasting out there. It is a mighty lame excuse for an ocean voyager if you make a mistake. Good luck. If you have electronics and the water is this smooth...give it a shot.

I used to run my 1850 out into the middle of Lake Michigan all the time. If the weather is good and you have the skills, I say give it a try.

Tigerboat, boats can take a lot of abuse. but each one is designed for a specific reason. yours looks like it would be great for water sports on a lake or beaching along the coast. It was not designed to go offshore!! Can it make it? of course, if you had to, but I would never advise anyone to take small children out there unless I had a larger vessel. The Gulf rises up quick, and your freeboard is very low.

I got a chance to discuss this particular outing with my pops this past weekend. Apparently this trip took place in 1982 and the 16 foot Galaxy handled quite well during the calm morning as 6 of us headed out to the island. We ended up camping over night just East of Ship Island and heavy rain hit us that night. The Galaxy was filled with enough water to push the hull down to the shallow bottom where it was moored. The water was pumped out late that night and through the wee hours of the morning during the downpour. We returned to the main land the following afternoon after our fill of sun and sand.

Good times (as I am told) LOL! :cheer:
